Dehradun: Dr Bhagwati Prasad Bhatt, special executive officer at Delhi’s Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), was appointed vice-chancellor of Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Uttarakhand Horticulture and Forestry University on Thursday. According to an order issued by the governor Lt Gen (retd) Gurmit Singh, who is the university’s chancellor, Bhatt has been appointed for a term of three years from the date he assumes charge.
Background and Expertise
Born in 1965, Bhatt is currently director of ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation. His areas of expertise include farming systems research and agroforestry. He has received 18 national awards from various organisations and has authored 277 research papers published in national and international journals. He has also authored or edited 19 books, 31 technical bulletins, nine training modules, and eight policy papers.
Professional Contributions
Bhatt has participated in more than 40 conferences and seminars, reviewed over 10 international and five national research journals, and served on 21 committees and societies constituted by the centre and various state governments. His extensive experience in agricultural research and education is expected to contribute significantly to the university's growth.
