The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has resumed its inquiry into the Karur stampede that occurred on September 27 last year, following a break due to the assembly election announcement. The tragic incident took place during TVK chief Joseph Vijay's campaign rally at Velusamypuram, claiming 41 lives and injuring over 100 people.
Police Personnel Questioned
On Thursday, as many as 10 police personnel, including an inspector, a sub-inspector, and other officers who were on security duty during the rally, appeared before CBI officials at the Karur circuit house for questioning.
Ongoing Investigation
The CBI has been investigating the incident since October last year. Officials have measured the road layout at Velusamypuram and questioned shopkeepers, police personnel, ambulance owners and drivers, as well as families of the deceased and injured. The agency also examined Vijay's campaign vehicle and interrogated its driver.
Statements Recorded from Key Figures
During inquiries held in Delhi, statements were recorded from Vijay, former minister and MLA V Senthilbalaji, TVK's N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, and C T R Nirmal Kumar, along with senior police and district administration officials.
