Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Praises Graduates as Catalysts for Viksit Bharat at GGSIPU Convocation
In a stirring address at the 18th convocation of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta declared that the talent and capability of today's graduates will propel India to unprecedented heights on the global stage. The event, held on Thursday at the university's East Delhi campus in Surajmal Vihar, celebrated the academic achievements of thousands of students, with Gupta asserting, "Today's graduates are the real drivers of Viksit Bharat."
Record Number of Degrees Conferred with Strong Female Representation
A remarkable total of 26,649 degrees were conferred during the ceremony, underscoring the university's expansive academic output. The breakdown included:
- 124 PhDs
- 11 MPhils
- 2,873 postgraduate degrees
- 22,455 undergraduate degrees
- 477 MBBS degrees
- 709 MD/MS and DM/MCh degrees
Notably, university officials revealed that women accounted for an impressive 70 percent of PhD recipients among this year's graduating cohort, highlighting a significant stride in gender inclusivity in higher education. Additionally, 76 gold medals and six memorial awards were presented to meritorious students, recognizing their exceptional academic performance.
Lieutenant Governor Emphasizes Adaptability in Age of AI and Innovation
Delhi Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor of GGSIPU, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, addressed the gathering, framing the convocation as not merely the conclusion of an academic journey but the commencement of new responsibilities toward nation-building. He cautioned students that they are entering a world rapidly transformed by Artificial Intelligence and sustainable innovation, urging them to transcend traditional textbook learning.
"Logical thinking is the real strength in the age of AI and innovation," stated LG Sandhu. "Degrees must go beyond textbook knowledge." He emphasized that adaptability, logical reasoning, and the courage to innovate will be paramount in navigating future challenges. Sandhu also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Viksit Bharat @2047," stressing the nation's need for problem-solvers capable of addressing complex issues in urban development, public health, and digital governance.
University Leadership Reaffirms Commitment to Innovation and Research
GGSIPU Vice-Chancellor Mahesh Verma reiterated the institution's dedication to fostering innovation, advancing research, and equipping students for a dynamically evolving global landscape. "Move forward with responsibility, integrity, and purpose," he advised the graduates. The convocation also saw the presence of Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi and Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education, adding to the event's prestige.
Chief Minister Highlights Educational Initiatives and Startup Support
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reflected on the convocation as a testament to years of diligent effort, discipline, and dedication by students. She encouraged them to leverage their education not only for personal advancement but also for the broader welfare of society. Gupta spotlighted GGSIPU's pioneering work in emerging disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics, data science, and design innovation.
Praising the Atal Incubation Centre at the university, the Chief Minister noted that it has bolstered over 170 startups, empowering youth to transition from job seekers to job creators. Outlining the Delhi government's educational priorities, Gupta disclosed that the education budget has surged to Rs 19,326 crore this year. "Our aim is not just to make schools smarter, but to ensure world-class facilities in higher education as well," she affirmed, adding that more than 2,200 students are receiving complimentary coaching for competitive examinations like JEE, NEET, and CLAT.
The convocation served as a powerful reminder of the critical role higher education plays in shaping a progressive and resilient India, with leaders calling upon graduates to harness their skills for national development and global competitiveness.
