Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed building of Government College at Haroli in Una district, built at a cost of Rs 14 crore. The college is named after his wife. Agnihotri said that the college currently offers bachelor courses in humanities, commerce, business administration, computer applications and science, along with master's degrees in commerce, political science, English, history and Hindi.
New Courses and Facilities Announced
He added that PG Diploma in Computer Applications and B.Sc. Computer Science courses would be offered from the coming session. Modern and well-equipped laboratories for launching M.Sc. in botany, chemistry, physics and zoology are also being constructed, so that postgraduate science courses can be introduced from the next academic session. A law degree course would also be introduced, he added. Efforts would be made to double the student strength from the present 500 next year.
Political Context and Criticism
Agnihotri said that the then Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had laid the foundation stone of the college building in 2017, but the previous BJP government did not lay a single brick during its five-year term. The present Congress government completed the building and dedicated it to the students, he added.
Community Engagement Directives
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the college management to arrange exposure visits for students, hold regular meetings with parents, seek their cooperation, and organize yearly alumni meetings to ensure good relations with the community. College principal Rajinder Kumar presented a report on academic and other activities on campus.
