IGKV Raipur's Soybean Research Project Honored with Prestigious Best Centre Award
The All India Coordinated Research Project (Soybean) at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) in Raipur has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the "Best Centre Award" for its outstanding performance during the 2023-2025 evaluation period. This recognition highlights the center's excellence in agricultural research and development.
Award Ceremony at National Agricultural Meeting
The prestigious award was formally presented at the 56th annual group meeting of the All India Coordinated Research Project (Soybean), which took place at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University in Hyderabad on April 9. This national gathering brought together leading agricultural scientists and researchers from across the country.
Comprehensive Excellence Across Multiple Domains
The Raipur center earned this distinguished honor through exceptional work spanning several critical areas of agricultural research. The evaluation committee recognized the center's achievements in:
- Research trials and experimental studies
- Scientific publications and academic contributions
- Breeding innovations and genetic improvements
- Technology development and agricultural advancements
- Farmer outreach and extension services
- Seed production and distribution systems
Dedicated Team Behind the Achievement
The award was received by the dedicated IGKV research team, which includes principal scientist Dr. Sunil Kumar Nag, senior scientist Dr. Rama Mohan Savu, and associate professor Dr. Aishwarya Tandon. Their collective expertise and commitment to agricultural research have been instrumental in securing this national recognition.
Consistent Performance and Tangible Outcomes
The Raipur center demonstrated remarkable consistency by successfully completing all allocated research trials for three consecutive years across multiple disciplines:
- Plant breeding and genetic improvement programs
- Agronomy and crop management practices
- Plant pathology and disease control measures
- Microbiology and soil health studies
Among their most significant contributions is the development of three improved soybean varieties specifically tailored for the eastern region's agricultural conditions. These varieties promise enhanced yield potential and better adaptation to local growing environments.
Direct Impact on Farming Communities
Beyond laboratory research, the center has made substantial contributions to practical agriculture through its extensive outreach programs. Annually, the team conducted approximately 100 frontline demonstrations that directly benefited farmers in Kanker district under the Tribal Sub-Plan initiative.
These demonstrations provided hands-on training and practical knowledge transfer to farming communities, helping them adopt improved agricultural practices and technologies for better soybean cultivation outcomes.
The Best Centre Award recognizes not just academic excellence but also the real-world impact of agricultural research on farming communities and regional food security. This achievement positions IGKV Raipur as a leading institution in soybean research and agricultural innovation in India.
