Manipal Academy of Higher Education Celebrates Historic Victory of Indian Blind Women's Cricket Team

In a landmark ceremony held on Saturday, the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) paid tribute to the Indian Blind Women's Cricket Team for their extraordinary and historic triumph at the Women's T20 World Cup. The event underscored the unifying power of sports and championed the cause of inclusion in Indian society.

Leadership Praises Team's Resilience and Determination

HS Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, emphasized the profound role of sports as a unifying force in India, with cricket occupying a particularly cherished position in the nation's cultural fabric. Lt Gen MD Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, delivered a heartfelt address, stating, "This honor recognizes the exceptional sportsmanship, resilience, and unwavering determination exhibited by the Indian Blind Women's Cricket Team. The ceremony witnessed the presence of prominent MAHE officials, including Vasanti R Pai, Trustee of the MAHE Trust; Narayana Sabhahit, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Technology & Science); Sharath K Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences); P Giridhar Kini, Registrar; Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer; and heads of various constituent institutes within MAHE.

The event was organized in partnership with the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI). Notable attendees included Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, Founder and Managing Trustee of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, and Rayan, an internationally acclaimed social entrepreneur renowned for his pioneering work in inclusive education, livelihoods, and sports for persons with disabilities.

Launch of Braille-Enabled BOBCARD: A Step Towards Inclusive Banking

A significant highlight of the ceremony was the official release of the Braille-enabled BOBCARD by Bank of Baroda's credit card division. This initiative marks a crucial advancement towards fostering inclusive and accessible banking solutions for individuals with visual impairments.

The card was unveiled by Ravindra Rai M, Managing Director & CEO of BOBCARD; the Chief General Manager of Bank of Baroda; and HS Ballal. This development is poised to enhance financial independence and accessibility for the visually impaired community across India.
