MAHE Unveils 'MAGIC' AI Platform to Revolutionize Academic and Administrative Systems
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, has launched a groundbreaking initiative named MAGIC (MAHE Agentic Intelligent Console). This strategic move marks a pivotal step in the university's digital transformation journey, aiming to integrate AI-powered agentic systems throughout its academic and administrative frameworks. The announcement was made on March 20, 2026, from Manipal, Karnataka, signaling a major leap toward a technology-enhanced educational environment.
Transition to Proactive AI Systems
The MAGIC platform represents a significant shift from traditional reactive digital systems to proactive AI-enabled solutions. By leveraging advanced artificial intelligence, the system is designed to automate routine processes, provide intelligent insights, and improve decision-making capabilities for faculty, students, and administrators alike. This initiative builds upon MAHE's digital transformation program initiated in 2023, which focused on modernizing institutional processes and services to meet contemporary educational demands.
Collaboration with Global Technology Leaders
MAHE is implementing the MAGIC initiative in collaboration with leading global technology partners, including Microsoft, Salesforce, Deloitte, PwC, and Hitachi. Senior leadership from MAHE, along with representatives from these technology firms, faculty members, and administrative teams, participated in the rollout and strategic discussions. These collaborations aim to foster the adoption of AI-driven platforms in higher education, setting a new benchmark for innovation in the sector.
Deployment of AI Agents Across University Functions
MAGIC is engineered to introduce intelligent AI agents across critical university functions. Initially, the system will deploy five AI agents within the Student Life Cycle Management (SLCM) platform. These agents will automate support for routine academic processes such as timetable creation, attendance management, exam planning, and performance analysis. Beyond academics, AI agents will also transform operational workflows in areas like admissions, procurement, finance, human resources, and support services. This transformation is expected to reduce processing times, enhance efficiency, and improve the overall user experience for all stakeholders.
Enhancing Research and Student Support
The platform will feature research-support agents capable of scanning academic databases, summarizing literature, and suggesting citations. This functionality allows researchers to concentrate on innovation rather than administrative tasks, potentially accelerating scientific discoveries and academic contributions. Additionally, AI-driven systems will assist prospective students by streamlining admissions and application processing, enabling selective candidate issuance within minutes. AI-powered support agents will provide 24/7 assistance, significantly reducing wait times and boosting response efficiency across the university.
Future Expansion and Vision
MAHE plans to deploy more than 50 AI agents across academic and administrative functions over the next two years, creating a fully integrated AI ecosystem. This ambitious expansion aims to reinforce the university's position as a technology-driven global institution, advancing toward a future where AI, automation, and emerging technologies like quantum computing play central roles in higher education.
Leadership Perspectives on the Initiative
Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Venkatesh, VSM (Retd.), Vice Chancellor of MAHE, emphasized the transformative nature of MAGIC, stating, "MAGIC represents a transformative step in our digital evolution. By integrating agentic AI across our academic and administrative ecosystems, we aim to create a proactive and intelligent university environment where technology supports both educators and learners in achieving excellence."
Arundhati Bhattacharya, President & CEO, South Asia at Salesforce, commented, "The integration of AI agents within higher education institutions like MAHE showcases the potential of intelligent digital platforms to transform learning, research, and institutional operations. We are proud to support MAHE in building an AI-driven ecosystem that empowers students, faculty, and administrators."
Ashwin Ballal, Leader at Deloitte India, added, "MAHE's MAGIC initiative represents a forward-looking step in the digital evolution of higher education institutions.
