Noida Power Company's Scholarship Fuels Dreams of Rural Students in Greater Noida
NPCL Scholarship Supports Rural Students' Higher Education Dreams

Noida Power Company's Scholarship Initiative Empowers Rural Students in Greater Noida

In the rural villages of Greater Noida, aspirations for higher education are being reignited through a transformative scholarship program. For Riya from Kasna village, the dream of becoming an IAS officer once seemed distant due to financial constraints. Similarly, Prashant Kumar of Bilaspur village faced uncertainty in pursuing a career in software engineering. Now, the Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) is stepping in to turn these ambitions into achievable realities with its Project Samarth – Seedhi initiative.

Project Samarth: A Ladder to Success for Deserving Students

Under Project Samarth, NPCL has selected 10 meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds across rural Greater Noida. Each student receives an annual scholarship of Rs 50,000, launched with the new academic session. This program promises continued financial support throughout their higher education, contingent on maintaining strong academic performance. The initiative aims to provide a sustainable pathway for students who might otherwise be forced to abandon their educational dreams.

Inspiring Stories of Resilience and Hope

Riya, the daughter of a farmer with a monthly income of approximately Rs 15,000, excelled academically with 88% in Class 10 and 90% in Class 12 from Oxford Green Public School. She is currently pursuing a BA in Economics at Gautam Buddha University (GBU). Reflecting on her journey, Riya shared, "I was very stressed and thought I would lose out on my education and my dream to become an IAS officer. But now, with the financial help, I can buy the necessary books and reading materials to pursue my dream. I’m also looking at joining a coaching centre to study for the IAS exams."

Prashant Kumar's story echoes similar challenges. With a family income of just Rs 8,000 per month, he nearly gave up hope despite scoring 92% in Class 10 and 85% in Class 12. Now enrolled in a BTech program at GL Bajaj Engineering College, he expressed renewed optimism, stating, "I was almost losing hope of completing my education, as my family’s income is very low to sustain this big dream. But now with the financial aid, I think I can pursue my dream to become a software engineer."

Broad Impact Across Diverse Fields

The scholarship extends its support to a diverse group of students, each with unique career goals:

  • Kunal from Luksar, a BCom student aspiring to become a bank manager.
  • Anjali Bidhuri, studying political science and international relations.
  • Sindhu Bhati, pursuing BSc (Hons) in Chemistry.
  • Other recipients include Ankit Pandit (BTech in CSE), Ayushi Nagar (BCA), Kanak (BCA), Babli, and Lucky Bhati.

Many of these students are children of farmers or daily wage labourers, highlighting the program's focus on uplifting underserved communities.

Long-Term Commitment and Strategic Partnerships

NPCL officials emphasize that this initiative is not merely a one-time grant but a sustained investment in the future of these students. Sarnath Ganguly, senior vice president (head distribution) at NPCL, explained, "The financial assistance provided to these 10 students is not a one-time handout; it represents a long-term investment in their future." Funding will continue through their undergraduate studies based on academic performance, ensuring ongoing support.

Eligibility criteria for the scholarship include:

  1. Residence in Greater Noida.
  2. Enrolment in a full-time course at a recognised institution.
  3. At least 75% marks in Classes 10 and 12.
  4. Annual family income below Rs 3 lakh.

Sharad Sinha, senior VP at NPCL, added, "This initiative will not only ease the financial burden of meritorious students but will also strengthen their confidence and guide them toward achieving their dreams. It is a significant step toward promoting equal opportunities, inclusivity, and social upliftment through education."

Collaborative Efforts for Greater Impact

The selection process was conducted in partnership with the Buddy4Study India Foundation to ensure that deserving candidates were accurately identified. Praveen Goel, senior VP (commercial) at NPCL, noted that this collaboration reflects a shared commitment to making a meaningful difference in underserved communities. By leveraging external expertise, NPCL aims to maximize the effectiveness and reach of its scholarship program.

As these students embark on their educational journeys, supported by NPCL's Project Samarth, they serve as beacons of hope for rural youth across Greater Noida. This initiative not only addresses immediate financial needs but also fosters a culture of empowerment and opportunity, paving the way for a brighter future through education.
