VNSGU Interior Design Students Embark on Academic Expedition to Lahaul Valley

Students from the interior design department at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) recently completed an enriching academic study tour to Keylong in the Lahaul Valley of Himachal Pradesh. This educational journey allowed them to immerse themselves in the region's unique interior spaces, local architectural styles, and rich cultural heritage.

Fieldwork and Exhibition Highlights

Based on their extensive fieldwork, the university inaugurated a two-day exhibition on Saturday, showcasing the students' discoveries and analyses. The exhibition, titled "Discovering Keylong–Lahaul Valley's Hidden Treasures", serves as a platform to present the insights gained during the tour.

Tour Details and Heritage Exploration

A group of 87 students, accompanied by 11 faculty members, visited Keylong and its surrounding areas in the Lahaul Valley. During their stay, they conducted in-depth studies of several significant heritage structures, including:

  • The 600-year-old Kangsar Khar Fort, a historical landmark offering insights into ancient defensive architecture.
  • A 200-year-old traditional house in Taskyang village, which exemplifies local residential design and construction techniques.
  • Various other historic sites that highlight the valley's architectural evolution and cultural narratives.

This hands-on experience provided students with practical knowledge of interior design principles as applied in traditional settings, enhancing their academic curriculum with real-world applications.
