VTU Vice-Chancellor Calls for AI Preparedness at Yukti 2026 Festival
In a compelling address at the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Mysuru, Vice-Chancellor S Vidyashankar underscored the critical importance of preparing for the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution while reaffirming the institution's unwavering commitment to student welfare. Speaking during the inauguration of the two-day cultural festival, Yukti 2026, at the university's Mysuru campus in Sathagalli, Vidyashankar highlighted the rapid evolution of the global IT landscape.
AI Set to Dominate IT Sector by 2030
Citing insights from prominent industry leaders, the Vice-Chancellor projected that the software industry could become almost entirely AI-driven by the year 2030. He emphasized the growing influence of intelligent systems, pointing out that AI has already surpassed human capabilities in specialized domains such as chess. Vidyashankar urged students to continuously upgrade their skills and strive to become 'super-intelligences' capable of adapting to emerging technologies.
The Vice-Chancellor stated, "The global IT landscape is transforming at an unprecedented pace, with artificial intelligence poised to dominate the sector in the coming years. Highlighting VTU's institutional progress, Vidyashankar revealed that student enrollment at the Mysuru campus has increased dramatically from approximately 600 to 2,500 students. To ensure that financial constraints do not hinder academic aspirations, the university has launched the Vidyanidhi scheme. Additionally, VTU has allocated Rs 2.5 crore for cultural activities across its four centers to promote holistic development.
The university's focus on employability is evident through a large-scale internship initiative that attracted 83,000 registrations nationwide. This program reflects VTU's dedication to bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
