44 Gujarat Jail Inmates Clear Class 10 and 12 Board Exams

A total of 44 jail inmates in Gujarat have successfully cleared the Classes 10 and 12 board examinations this year. They appeared for their exams from prisons located across the state.

Breakdown of Results

According to an official statement, 22 inmates cleared the Class 10 exam, while another 22 passed the Class 12 exam. The prisons department facilitated the process by helping inmates fill out forms and providing them with study materials. The state education department arranged for examination centres within the prison premises.

Inmate Testimonials

Without naming the inmates, the statement quoted one candidate as saying, “I received inspiration from the prison radio, and the welfare office, and the prison officials encouraged me to take up studies. Today, after getting success in the exam, I feel very satisfied.”

Another prisoner shared that due to his family’s financial situation, he had abandoned his studies midway and remained depressed after being sentenced to prison. He expressed happiness at having cleared his board exam.

A prisoner who passed his Class 12 exam said that despite being in prison, his dreams are still alive. He attends music classes two days a week and aspires to become a singer after his release.

Official Response

State police chief K L N Rao congratulated the prisoners and announced that the successful candidates will be felicitated by the prisons department.
