The Andhra Pradesh school education department is set to launch a comprehensive six-day ground-level training programme for more than 40,000 secondary grade teachers (SGTs) from June 4 to June 9. This initiative is part of a broader 60-day certificate course designed to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) among primary school students across the state.
Training Details and Coverage
The non-residential training programme will be conducted at 180 identified centres spread throughout Andhra Pradesh. It aims to cover approximately 40,412 teachers, including nearly 34,000 existing SGTs and 6,412 newly recruited teachers. According to official proceedings, the training is specifically intended for teachers who have completed the first phase of training, newly selected DSC (District Selection Committee) teachers, and those working in single-teacher schools. Officials have stated that the trained teachers are expected to handle classes 1 and 2 during the 2026-27 academic year.
Selection and Arrangements
The department has issued clear instructions to district authorities to ensure that only one teacher from each school offering Grade-I classes is deputed for the programme. Preference should be given to teachers who are currently handling Grade II. Additionally, officials have been directed to make all necessary arrangements at the training venues, including providing food and refreshments. Close monitoring of the programme's conduct is also mandated to ensure smooth implementation.
