Tragic Suicide of BA Student in Barmer Girls' Hostel
A 19-year-old BA student tragically died by suicide at a girls' hostel in Barmer, Rajasthan, on Monday, sending shockwaves through the local community. Police were forced to break open her hostel door to recover the body, highlighting the distressing nature of the incident.
Details of the Incident
According to DSP Ramesh Kumar Sharma, the student was a second-year BA student and a native of Baytu in Barmer district. On Sunday night around 11pm, she had returned from the library and retired to her room. When she did not emerge by 10am on Monday, her roommate and other students knocked on the door but received no response, prompting them to alert the warden.
Around 11am, in the presence of police, the door was broken open. Family members were immediately called, and the body was brought down and taken to the mortuary of Barmer Medical College district hospital. Forensic teams also arrived at the hostel to collect evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police Investigation and Broader Context
Police stated that prima facie, the case appears to be a suicide, but a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to her death. As part of the inquiry, the student's mobile phone is being examined for any clues or insights.
This incident follows another tragic event in Barmer just two days earlier, within the same Kotwali police station area. In that case, a female student died by suicide at her home after receiving fewer than expected marks in the RBSE Class 12 board exams, raising concerns about student mental health and academic pressure in the region.
The police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the events surrounding this heartbreaking loss.
