Bihar's 2026 Intermediate Examinations Set to Commence with Robust Security Measures

The academic stage is fully prepared for the commencement of the annual Intermediate examinations across Bihar, scheduled to begin on Monday. This significant educational event, orchestrated by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), will witness the participation of more than 13 lakh enthusiastic boys and girls. These examinations will be conducted at a total of 1,762 examination centers spread throughout the state, ensuring widespread accessibility and organization.

Patna District Leads with Substantial Examinee Numbers

In Patna district alone, a remarkable 73,963 students are registered to appear for the examinations. This cohort includes 38,037 girls, highlighting a strong female participation rate. The examinations will be held at 84 dedicated centers within the district, each equipped to handle the logistical demands of such a large-scale event.

Innovative Identification and Communication Systems

To streamline the examination process and enhance security, the BSEB has implemented several innovative measures. Each examinee has been issued a Unique ID, facilitating special identification and reducing the potential for impersonation. Furthermore, a dedicated WhatsApp group titled "BSEB Exam 2026" has been established. This group will link district magistrates, superintendents of police, and BSEB officials, enabling the swift dissemination of crucial information and the rapid resolution of any issues that may arise during the examination period.

A 24/7 control room will be operational from 6 am on February 1st until 6 pm on February 13th, providing continuous oversight and support throughout the examination duration.

Examination Schedule and Entry Protocols

The examinations will be conducted in two distinct shifts daily:

  • The first shift will commence at 9:30 am.
  • The second shift will begin at 2 pm.

All examinees are required to enter the examination hall at least thirty minutes before the start of each shift. This protocol is designed to ensure a smooth and orderly commencement of the exams.

Stringent Security and Monitoring Arrangements

BSEB chairman Anand Kishor has emphasized that comprehensive instructions have been issued to all district magistrates, superintendents of police, and district education officers. The primary objective is to conduct the examinations in a peaceful, transparent, and secure environment.

Key security measures include:

  1. District magistrates and superintendents of police will remain on constant movement, visiting various centers to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the examination premises.
  2. Prohibitory orders will be strictly enforced within a 200-meter radius of all examination centers.
  3. Magistrates and police personnel will be deployed at every center to maintain law and order.
  4. No student will be permitted to enter the examination hall after the commencement of the exam.
  5. Each examinee will undergo a two-level frisking process:
    • First, at the center gate by police and magistrates.
    • Second, at the entrance of the examination hall by invigilators.

Enhanced Invigilation and Technological Surveillance

The invigilation process has been meticulously planned to uphold integrity. There will be one invigilator for every 25 examinees, and each invigilator must submit an affidavit confirming that all students under their supervision have been frisked and no objectionable items were found. Each examination hall will have a minimum of two invigilators present at all times.

To further bolster security, CCTV cameras will be installed at all centers, with one videographer assigned for every 500 students. Additionally, except for the center superintendent, no invigilator, examinee, or staff member will be allowed to carry a mobile phone inside the examination hall, minimizing the risk of malpractice.

Transparent Paper Handling and Student Support

The center superintendent will convene a meeting with invigilators and static magistrates on Wednesday to review all arrangements thoroughly. Sealed question paper packets, received from banks or treasuries, will be opened at the centers in the presence of static magistrates during both sittings. This process will be completely videographed to ensure transparency and accountability.

In a student-friendly move, examinees will be provided with 100% additional alternative questions in both objective and subjective papers. For instance, if only 50 questions are required to be answered, 100 questions will be supplied, offering students greater choice and flexibility. Furthermore, students will be granted an additional 15 minutes specifically for reading and understanding the question paper, as confirmed by Chairman Anand Kishor.

These comprehensive measures reflect the BSEB's commitment to conducting fair, secure, and student-centric examinations, setting a benchmark for educational assessments in the region.
