Bihar to Launch 534 Model Schools as Saraswati Vidya Niketan

The Bihar Education Department has unveiled an ambitious plan to revolutionize school education across the state by establishing model schools inspired by Kendriya Vidyalayas. Under this initiative, one model school has been identified in each of the 534 blocks, along with 10 district-level schools. These institutions will operate under the name ‘Saraswati Vidya Niketan’ starting July this year. The state government has approved a budget of Rs 800 crore for the project in the current financial year.

Modern Facilities and Curriculum

Director of Secondary Education Sajjan Rajasekar stated that this initiative is part of the government’s ‘Saat Nischay-3’ programme, which focuses on providing advanced education for a better future. The schools are designed to offer quality and modern education on par with Kendriya Vidyalayas. Students will benefit from smart laboratories, computer labs, digital libraries, and both online and offline coaching support to enhance academic learning and competitive exam preparation.

Enrollment and Admissions

So far, 89,904 students have enrolled in these model schools across the state, with many admissions facilitated through the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) scheme. The schools are expected to commence operations after the summer vacation in July. According to the department, the establishment of these model schools is anticipated to foster healthy academic competition among government schools and encourage better overall performance in the education system.

Addressing Teacher Vacancies

Despite the progress, teacher vacancies remain a significant challenge. Departmental records indicate 1,860 vacancies for classes 9 and 10, and 6,459 vacancies for classes 11 and 12. To tackle this, district-level panels headed by the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) have been formed to appoint qualified teachers through interviews. Additionally, students will receive uniforms through Jeevika groups, and teachers posted in these schools will be provided special incentive allowances.

Impact and Future Outlook

The model schools initiative is expected to set a new benchmark for government school education in Bihar. With modern infrastructure and targeted support, the state aims to improve learning outcomes and prepare students for higher education and competitive exams. The government’s investment of Rs 800 crore underscores its commitment to educational reform, while the focus on filling teacher vacancies ensures that quality instruction is not compromised. As the schools begin functioning from July, the education department will monitor progress and make necessary adjustments to achieve the desired goals.
