Panic Grips Doranda College Campus After Unexplained Cracker Blast
Ranchi: The peaceful academic environment of Doranda College was abruptly shattered on Wednesday morning when a loud cracker explosion in one of the campus washrooms sent waves of panic through students and staff members.
The incident occurred at approximately 11 am, creating a deafening sound that echoed across the college premises and immediately triggered concern among everyone present on campus.
Immediate Response and Investigation
College authorities swiftly responded to the alarming situation by informing the local police department. The timing of the incident is particularly sensitive given that city police are already on high alert ahead of the India-South Africa ODI cricket match scheduled for November 30.
Doranda College Principal R K Sharma provided details about the ongoing investigation. "I have personally questioned some students who were near the washroom at the time of the incident," Sharma stated. "We plan to question several more individuals on Thursday as our investigation continues."
The principal confirmed that despite the disturbance, classes continued to function normally throughout the day, demonstrating the institution's commitment to maintaining academic routine.
Security Measures and Preventive Actions
Principal Sharma emphasized that contacting the police was primarily a precautionary measure rather than a response to an immediate ongoing threat. He expressed concern about how such incidents affect the college's reputation.
"Such incidents create a bad impression of our institution," Sharma remarked, highlighting the negative impact on the college's public image.
In response to the security breach, the administration is considering significant upgrades to their surveillance system. Installation of closed circuit television cameras near washroom areas is being seriously contemplated to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The college management has assured students and parents that they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness and will implement all necessary measures to ensure campus safety and security.
