A 22-year-old BTech student from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly killed after two student groups of a private university in Dehradun's Premnagar area clashed with rods and hockey sticks over an old rivalry. Three students of the university have been arrested, police confirmed on Tuesday. Dehradun SP (city), Pramod Kumar, stated that a caller informed authorities that two groups of students were involved in a brutal clash late Monday, leaving at least one of them critically injured.
The injured student, Divyanshu Jatrana, who hailed from Muzaffarnagar and was residing in the Premnagar area, was rushed to a nearby health facility before being shifted to Doon Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries soon after arrival. His family later filed a formal police complaint in Dehradun, initiating a thorough investigation into the tragic event.
FIR Registered Under Multiple BNS Sections
An FIR has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 3 (5): Criminal act committed by several persons with common intent
- Section 61 (2): Criminal conspiracy
- Section 103 (1): Murder
- Section 191 (2): Unlawful assembly
The violent confrontation took place outside the university premises in Premnagar, according to police reports. Authorities have emphasized that the incident occurred off-campus but involved students from the institution.
Ongoing Investigation and Arrest Details
Dehradun SP Pramod Kumar provided details about the ongoing probe: "A comprehensive investigation has been initiated. Those arrested include Yuvraj Kumar, 20, a BBA 2nd year student from Bihar; Madhur Khandelwal, 19, from Rudrapur; and Shivam Sharma, 20, from Bihar. Both Madhur and Shivam are BTech 3rd year students. Our efforts are focused on identifying and apprehending other individuals involved in this tragic incident."
