Delhi Nursery Admissions 2026-27: First Selection Lists Released by 1,700+ Schools
In a significant development for Delhi's education landscape, more than 1,700 private unaided schools across the capital have officially released their first lists of selected students on Friday. This marks a crucial milestone in the nursery admissions process for the upcoming 2026-27 academic session, setting the stage for thousands of families as they navigate the competitive entry into early childhood education.
Comprehensive Selection and Waiting Lists
The newly released lists encompass both confirmed selections and waiting-list candidates for entry-level classes, specifically targeting nursery, kindergarten (KG), and Class I under the general category. Schools have initiated communication with parents of selected students, sending messages that outline the necessary formalities to be completed within the stipulated timeframe. Education experts are strongly advising parents to prepare all required documents in advance to prevent any delays during the verification process, which is predominantly conducted online.
On-Campus Support and Extended Waiting Lists
To assist parents through this often stressful period, many institutions have established on-campus help desks, offering personalized guidance despite the digital nature of most procedures. A notable trend emerging from this year's admissions is the length of waiting lists, with several schools reporting lists that are as long as or even longer than their selection lists. This highlights the intense competition for limited seats in Delhi's prestigious private schools.
For instance, at Amity International School in Saket, 272 applicants secured a spot on the selection list, while a staggering nearly 1,300 children were placed on the waiting list. Similarly, Bal Bharati Public School selected approximately 124 students, with about 100 on the waiting list. At The Indian School, 114 students made it to the selection list, and MM Public School in Pitampura selected 112 students, placing another 63 on the waiting list.
In contrast, St Michael's School on Pusa Road, which has 40 available seats, selected 20 girls and 20 boys in its first list and does not anticipate additional rounds, indicating a more straightforward process for some institutions.
Parental Perspectives and Procedural Timelines
The release of the first lists has prompted many parents to take time off work to complete fee payments and other formalities, underscoring the high stakes involved. Priyanka Sharma, a resident of west Delhi, shared her experience, stating, "The admission process is a test for us as parents; a misstep at any stage can put a child's future at risk. My child is on the waiting list, and I hope he makes it through the next round." Her sentiments reflect the anxiety and hope prevalent among families during this critical phase.
Officials have outlined a clear timeline for addressing grievances and subsequent lists. Grievances related to the first list will be addressed from January 24 to February 3. If seats remain vacant, the second list, along with the waiting list, will be released on February 9, with issues related to it being raised from February 10 to February 16. Additional lists may be issued on March 5, with the entire admission process scheduled to conclude by March 19.
