Goa Board Class XII Results 2026: Pass Percentage Soars to 92.6%
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education declared the Class XII examination results on Saturday, revealing a significant milestone in the state's educational landscape. The overall pass percentage for 2026 has surged to an impressive 92.6%, continuing an upward trend observed over recent years. This marks a notable improvement from 85% in 2024 and 90.6% in 2025, showcasing consistent academic progress among students.
Key Factors Behind the Rising Success Rate
Board chairperson Bhagirath Shetye attributed this achievement to several critical factors. "There is a general increase in competitiveness among students, coupled with enhanced performances in the arts and vocational streams," Shetye explained. He emphasized that attitudes towards the arts stream are evolving, with more high-performing students now opting for this pathway. "In Goa, completing higher secondary education is viewed as a fundamental qualification essential for accessing higher education opportunities," he added, highlighting the state's commitment to educational attainment.
Detailed Breakdown of Student Performance
Out of 17,283 candidates who appeared for the exams, 16,067 students successfully cleared them. The gender-wise distribution reveals:
- 8,529 girls passed, achieving a pass percentage of 93.9%
- 7,538 boys passed, with a pass percentage of 91.9%
This continues the trend of girls outperforming boys in the state's board examinations. Additionally, the quality of performance has improved significantly, with 8,280 students scoring in the 60 to 80% range, a shift from previous years where more students typically fell into the 46% to 59% bracket.
Exceptional Performance by Divyang Students
In a heartening development, 888 divyang students appeared for the exams, of which 850 cleared them, resulting in an outstanding pass percentage of 95.7%. This underscores the inclusive efforts of the education system in supporting all learners.
Stream-Wise Analysis of Results
The performance across different academic streams provides further insights:
- Science Stream: 5,097 students appeared and cleared, with a pass percentage of 93.9%. However, Shetye noted a slight dip in performance in physics and mathematics this year.
- Commerce Stream: 4,936 students passed, achieving a pass percentage of 92.9%.
- Arts Stream: 3,790 students cleared, with a pass percentage of 92.2%, up from 91% in 2025.
- Vocational Stream: 2,432 students passed, recording a pass percentage of 92.3%, a substantial increase from 82.7% in 2025.
Regional Variations in Performance
The results also highlighted regional disparities across Goa's talukas:
- Salcete Taluka: Led with 3,704 students appearing and a pass percentage of 95.1%, just shy of the top performer.
- Pernem Taluka: Achieved the highest pass percentage at 95.9%, though with only 645 students appearing.
- Sanguem Taluka: Had the lowest number of candidates at 151 students, with a pass percentage of 82.8%.
- Dharbandora Taluka: Recorded the lowest pass percentage at 79.6%, despite 186 students appearing.
Subject-Wise Excellence and Future Steps
In terms of academic excellence, the subject of history saw 41 students scoring a perfect 100 out of 100, followed by political science with 28 students and sociology with 27 students. Board officials announced that a supplementary exam is tentatively scheduled for April 27, allowing students in the 'needs improvement' category to clear backlogs and those wishing to enhance their scores to participate.
Shetye also addressed misconceptions about internal marks, stating that the higher pass percentage cannot be solely attributed to this component, as students must still clear external exams independently. He praised school managements for their proactive measures, such as conducting extra classes for Classes X and XII, which have contributed to this positive outcome.
