According to Champawat police station in-charge Laxman Singh, students had gathered at the Gorilchaur ground, a large public space, around 8 am. Before the official commencement of the sports meet, some participants were practicing their respective events, while others were playing football nearby.

The fatal accident happened when Somendra Singh Bohra, the victim, went to retrieve a football. In a tragic turn of events, he inadvertently walked straight into the path of a javelin being thrown by another student. The javelin pierced deep into his neck, causing a severe injury.

Immediate Response and Medical Efforts

Bohra was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Hira Singh Hyanki, principal medical superintendent at Champawat hospital, confirmed that Bohra suffered a deep wound in his neck, just below the ear. Despite medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

In the aftermath of the incident, the annual sports meet was immediately called off. Police authorities stated that no First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged yet as investigations are ongoing.
