The Department of School Education and Literacy in Karnataka has unveiled a comprehensive statewide inspection initiative aimed at evaluating school preparedness, enrolment, infrastructure, and learning standards in anticipation of the 2026-27 academic year.
Circular Details
In a circular issued by the Commissioner of School Education on Monday, the department mandated that officials conduct surprise visits to schools, assess teaching-learning readiness, and ensure that institutions are fully prepared before the scheduled reopening on June 1.
Inspection Teams and Focus Areas
District- and taluk-level teams, led by deputy directors, block education officers, and other officials, will carry out inspections throughout the academic year. Special emphasis will be placed on schools identified as lagging in learning outcomes.
Officials have been directed to examine several key areas, including student enrolment and attendance, classroom readiness, bridge courses, implementation of incentive schemes, and safety conditions in schools. This is particularly crucial in the wake of heavy rainfall that has affected many regions.
Daily Inspection Plan
Each team will visit three schools per day — two primary schools and one secondary school — following a route map prepared at the taluk and district levels. Schools that demonstrate poor progress will be flagged for continued monitoring and remedial support.
Infrastructure and Safety Requirements
The department has instructed schools to complete all cleaning and repair work before reopening, especially in buildings damaged by rain, fallen trees, or electrical hazards. It has also mandated that schools ensure the availability of safe drinking water, functional toilets, and proper infrastructure to create a conducive learning environment.
