Kerala Government Announces Comprehensive Schedule for 2026 Class X Annual Examinations

Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant development for the academic calendar, Kerala's General Education Minister V Sivankutty has officially announced the complete schedule for the 2026 annual examinations for Class X students across the state. The detailed timeline, finalized by Pareeksha Bhavan, encompasses every phase from initial notifications to the final declaration of results.

Examination Timeline and Key Dates

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Minister Sivankutty revealed that the annual examinations for SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate), THSLC (Technical Higher Secondary Leaving Certificate), and AHSLC (Anganwadi Higher Secondary Leaving Certificate) will commence on March 5, 2026, and conclude on March 30, 2026. This advanced announcement is expected to greatly assist both students and teachers in planning their preparation strategies effectively.

The comprehensive schedule includes several important pre-examination activities:

  • The SSLC Information Technology examination will be conducted from February 2 to February 13, 2026
  • Model examinations have been scheduled for February 16 to February 20, 2026

Post-Examination Procedures and Result Declaration

Following the completion of examinations, the evaluation process will begin with tabulation activities scheduled from April 7 to April 25, 2026. The examination board will convene for its crucial meeting on May 7, 2026, with the official results declared the very next day on May 8, 2026.

Clarification on Syllabus Reduction Policy

In a related development, Minister Sivankutty took to social media to address concerns regarding the recently announced 25% reduction in the Class X syllabus. Following his Saturday announcement about implementing this reduction from the next academic year, some stakeholders expressed apprehension that this move might compromise academic standards by removing essential content.

The minister categorically clarified that "reducing content load doesn't mean removing core or essential portions of the syllabus." He emphasized that any modifications would be implemented strictly based on study reports prepared by committees comprising expert teachers and educationists.

"The exercise is aimed at avoiding repetition and ensuring that only age-appropriate learning content is included at each level," Sivankutty explained in his Facebook post. He further assured that the same scientific approach would be adopted while reviewing SSLC-level syllabi, maintaining that "reducing examination-related stress among students remains the stated policy of the government."

This dual announcement regarding both examination schedules and syllabus rationalization reflects the Kerala government's comprehensive approach to educational reform, balancing structured academic planning with pedagogical improvements aimed at enhancing the learning experience while maintaining educational standards.
