Kochi: The district-level Praveshanolsavam, the official school reopening ceremony for the upcoming academic year, will be held at Pezhakkapilly Government Higher Secondary School on June 1. Education department officials have confirmed that all schools in the district are fully prepared to welcome students for the new academic term following the summer vacation.

Public representatives, including Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and the district panchayat president, are expected to attend the ceremony, according to officials from the education department.
District School Statistics
The district comprises a total of 984 schools, which include 375 government schools, 514 aided schools, and 95 unaided schools. During the previous academic year, the total student enrollment stood at 242,428. This figure included 46,531 students in government schools, 162,584 in aided schools, and 33,313 in unaided schools. Notably, 18,342 students were admitted to Class I.
'Lesson One – Health' Campaign Launch
In a parallel initiative, the campaign 'Lesson One – Health' will be launched as part of efforts to promote healthy habits among schoolchildren. This initiative is jointly organized by the health department and the general education department. Officials stated that the campaign aims to spread awareness about healthy lifestyle practices among children and their families, while encouraging students to adopt healthier routines from an early age.
Awareness Sessions and Activities
As part of the programme, awareness sessions will be conducted on various health topics, including communicable disease prevention, lifestyle disease control, and mental health. Additionally, anti-tobacco and anti-drug campaigns will be integrated into the initiative to further promote well-being among students.
