Maharashtra TET 2025 Provisional Results Released: Only 10% Candidates Qualify

The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) released the tentative results for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) late on Friday. The results revealed a challenging scenario for aspiring teachers across the state.

Out of the 4.46 lakh candidates who appeared for the November 2025 examination, a mere 10% managed to qualify. This figure translates to approximately 44,600 successful candidates from the massive pool of applicants.

Objection Window Open Until January 21

Candidates now have a limited time to raise objections regarding their results. The council has set the deadline for 6 PM on January 21, which falls on a Wednesday.

After this date, MSCE will review all submitted objections and suggestions. The council will then announce the final results. A senior official clarified the current status, stating these are only provisional results.

The final list will be published after thorough examination of all concerns raised through candidates' login IDs.

Supreme Court Order Changes TET Rules

This year's TET has generated significant debate following a crucial Supreme Court order issued in September. The court made TET compulsory for all teachers, including those already employed.

Previously, the examination was mandatory only for aspiring teachers seeking new positions. Now, existing teachers must also clear the exam to retain their current jobs.

The order provided limited exemptions. Teachers with less than five years of service remaining were excused from the requirement. However, these exempted teachers would become ineligible for promotions if they failed to qualify.

Teaching Community Expresses Concerns

The Supreme Court order and subsequent government resolutions have sparked resistance within the teaching community. Teachers expressed particular concern about one specific provision.

The court stated that teachers failing to clear TET within two consecutive years would face compulsory retirement. This requirement has created anxiety among educators across Maharashtra.

Concerns have escalated further due to historically low pass percentages in recent years. The 2024 TET results showed only 3.38% of candidates clearing the examination.

That year, just 11,168 candidates qualified out of more than 3.5 lakh applicants. The current 10% pass rate, while higher than 2024, remains concerning for many stakeholders.

Federation Spokesperson Comments on Situation

Mahendra Ganpule, spokesperson of the Maharashtra School Principals' Federation, addressed the ongoing discussions about low pass rates. He noted that some teachers are demanding a reduction in the qualifying percentage.

Ganpule explained that teachers will submit their objections through the proper channels. Everyone must wait for the council's final decision on these matters.

He emphasized that the government resolution mandating qualification within two years remains fully in force. This requirement has not been withdrawn despite the concerns raised.

Examination Structure and Details

To qualify as a teacher for Standards I through V, candidates must clear Paper I of the TET examination. Paper II is required for those wishing to teach Standards VI through VIII.

Last year's examination was conducted across an extensive network of testing centers. The test took place at 1,423 centers spread across 37 districts in Maharashtra.

The registration numbers showed strong participation from aspiring educators. Over 2 lakh candidates registered for Paper I, while approximately 2.7 lakh registered for Paper II.

Candidates demonstrated diverse language preferences during the examination. The most popular language choices, listed in order of preference, included:

  • Marathi
  • Hindi
  • English
  • Urdu
  • Kannada
  • Bengali
  • Gujarati
  • Telugu
  • Sindhi

The examination continues to serve as a critical gateway for teaching careers in Maharashtra. All stakeholders await the final results following the objection review process.
