Pune's First PPP-Model Zilla Parishad CBSE School Inaugurated in Khanwadi

The state of Maharashtra has witnessed a groundbreaking educational initiative with the inauguration of its first zilla parishad (ZP) school operating under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. This historic event took place this Saturday in Khanwadi, a village renowned as the birthplace of the legendary social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.

A Landmark Inauguration Ceremony

The school, which also marks the first ZP institution in Pune district to be affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, along with numerous other dignitaries, highlighting the significance of this project in the state's educational landscape.

Bridging Educational Gaps for Disadvantaged Students

Designed to provide high-quality, free education from Kindergarten to Class XII, the school specifically targets children from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Pune ZP Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil emphasized the school's mission, stating, "The school aims to bridge the gap for those who have historically faced financial constraints and long commutes to access quality schooling." This initiative is set to initially benefit 260 students from nearby villages, with plans to expand its reach.

Unique Collaborative Effort and Infrastructure

The project's success stems from a remarkable collaborative effort. Local villagers generously donated the 12-acre campus land, while architects and consultants offered their services pro bono. The infrastructure was developed through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding, ensuring a state-of-the-art facility. The Zilla Parishad will retain administrative control, but an expert regulatory committee has been established to oversee daily operations and maintain rigorous academic standards.

Future Plans and Broader Impact

Looking ahead, there are ambitious plans to introduce a residential facility for meritorious students from across the district, starting from Class VI. This move aims to further enhance educational opportunities. The initiative is being hailed as a potential model for inclusive education across Maharashtra. Patil added, "This is more than just a school; it is a movement rooted in Phule's vision of accessible education." The inauguration was strategically timed to coincide with Mahatma Phule's birth anniversary celebrations, serving as a modern tribute to his enduring legacy of educational reform and social justice.
