Ranchi Schools Move Classes Online During Cold Wave Alert
The district administration in Ranchi has taken decisive action to protect students from harsh winter conditions. They have suspended all on-campus lessons for students enrolled up to Class six. This suspension will remain in effect until January 14. Meanwhile, older students in higher classes can continue attending school in person, but only from 10 am onwards.
Weather Warning Prompts School Closures
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Ranchi issued a yellow alert for a cold wave across the north-western part of the state. This alert covers four days from January 13 to 16. Several districts face this warning, including Chatra, Hazaribag, Ramgarh, Latehar, Palamu, Bokaro, Garhwa, Gumla, and Lohardaga.
Schools Implement Online Learning Solutions
Educational institutions across Ranchi have quickly adapted to the situation by shifting their teaching methods online. Cambrian Public School started online lessons for Nursery to Class VI on January 7. Principal Paramjeet Kaur explained their approach. "We are limiting online classes to two periods daily for lower classes and up to five periods for seniors," she said. "This helps maintain academic continuity without exposing children to excessive screen time."
Chiranjeevi Concept School began online classes from Monday for students up to Class VI. Their notice specified that Classes I and II receive two online lessons each day, while Classes III to VI have three daily sessions. Firayalal Public School took a different approach, moving Classes VI to XII completely online.
DAV Public School in Hehal started online lessons for Classes I to VI from Monday, while keeping Classes VI to XII in regular in-person teaching mode. Their counterpart in Bariatu chose to move Classes VII to XI online instead.
Jawahar Vidya Mandir (JVM) Shyamali is conducting online lessons for LKG to Class VI, while maintaining offline classes for students in Classes VII to XII. Principal Samarjit Jana emphasized their priorities. "Students' safety remains our top concern," he stated. "Online classes ensure learning continues without exposing children to harsh weather conditions."
Parents Welcome the Safety Measures
Parents have responded positively to these protective measures. Ananya Kumari, a parent, expressed her appreciation for the school's decision. "The morning cold has become extremely harsh this season," she noted. "Shifting to online classes represents a practical and thoughtful step by the schools. This arrangement helps safeguard our children's health while ensuring their education continues without interruption."
Schools across Ranchi continue to monitor the weather situation closely. They remain prepared to extend online learning if necessary to protect students from the ongoing cold wave conditions while maintaining academic progress ahead of annual examinations.
