Ahmedabad Teen's Joyride Turns Tragic: 60-Year-Old Killed, Girl Injured

In a heartbreaking incident in Ahmedabad, a 13-year-old boy's unauthorized joyride ended in tragedy on Monday morning. The minor, a Class 8 student, allegedly took his family car without his parents' knowledge, leading to a fatal accident in the Danilimda area that claimed the life of a 60-year-old man and left a four-year-old girl injured.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The accident occurred around 10:30 AM near Gate 2 of the boy's housing society. According to police reports, the juvenile took the vehicle after his father had left for work, without informing any family members. While driving near the society entrance, he reportedly lost control of the car and struck pedestrians on the road.

The victims were identified as Nurmohammad Shaikh, 60, who succumbed to his injuries, and a young girl who sustained injuries in the collision. The complaint was formally lodged by Imran Shaikh, the son of the deceased.

Police Response and Legal Action

K Traffic Police have registered a comprehensive case under multiple legal provisions. The charges include sections 281, 106(1), 125(a), 125(b), and 324 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 177, 184, and 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act have also been invoked given the driver's minor status.

Police officials revealed that the boy's parents only realized he was missing some time after he took the car and began searching for him. By that time, the tragic accident had already occurred near their society gate.

As the driver is a juvenile, authorities have issued a formal notice to his guardian rather than arresting the minor directly. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident remains ongoing, with police examining all aspects of the case.

Broader Implications and Community Impact

This incident highlights several critical issues facing urban communities:

  • Juvenile access to vehicles: The ease with which the minor accessed and operated a car without supervision
  • Parental responsibility: Questions about vehicle security and monitoring of underage children
  • Road safety: The vulnerability of pedestrians in residential areas
  • Legal framework: How the justice system handles cases involving juvenile offenders in serious accidents

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Danilimda community, raising concerns about child supervision and road safety measures in residential neighborhoods. As the investigation continues, authorities are emphasizing the importance of responsible vehicle ownership and the need for greater awareness about the dangers of underage driving.
