RTE Admissions in Lucknow Private Schools: Registration Starts February 2 for 2026-27 Session
The education department in Lucknow will launch registrations for admissions of disadvantaged children in private schools under the Right to Education Act (RTE) for the academic session 2026-27. The process begins on February 2, marking a key step in implementing the RTE provisions.
Streamlined Admission Process with Three Phases
Unlike last year's four phases, the admission process will now conclude in three phases. This change aims to simplify and expedite the procedure for families and schools.
The schedule released on Monday outlines the timeline clearly. The first lottery will be announced on February 18. The second and third lotteries will follow on March 9 and March 27 respectively.
Registrations for the first phase will end by February 16. The second phase of applications will run from February 21 until March 7. The third and final phase of registrations will kick off from March 12 and conclude on March 25.
Simplified Aadhaar Requirements for Parents
In a significant first, the government has removed the mandatory requirement for Aadhaar cards of both the child and both parents. Now, only the Aadhaar card of one parent will suffice for filling the online application form for RTE admissions.
This move reduces paperwork and potential barriers for eligible families. It aligns with efforts to make the process more accessible and less cumbersome.
Age Criteria for Admission to Different Classes
The age guidelines for admission remain specific. Children aged three or above but less than four years will gain admission to nursery. Those aged between four and five years will enroll in LKG.
Similarly, children aged between five and six years will join UKG. Kids between six and seven years will enter Class 1. These criteria ensure age-appropriate placements across entry-level classes.
Directive to District Magistrates for School Mapping
Director General of School Education Monika Rani has issued clear instructions to all district magistrates. They must complete one hundred percent mapping and registration of all recognized private schools in their districts.
This mapping should base on a minimum of twenty-five percent of the total capacity of entry-level classes, which include pre-primary and Class 1. The directive emphasizes completing this task before the application process begins to ensure smooth implementation.
The RTE admissions process in Lucknow reflects ongoing efforts to enhance educational access for disadvantaged children. With streamlined phases and reduced documentation, it aims to support more families in securing quality education in private schools under the act's provisions.
