Chennai: School managements across Tamil Nadu will be busy over the next ten days as students prepare for the reopening day on June 1. The school education department has issued a circular instructing school heads to tend to various tasks in the upcoming week, from readying warehouses and removing electricity cables to closing septic tanks and painting school name boards.
Digital Device Maintenance
School heads have been instructed to ensure that computers, laptops, and digital tablets supplied to schools are maintained for continuous usage. "Smartboards provided to primary schools must be checked once before the classes commence in June. If the gadgets are not functioning, a ticket can be raised on EMIS to get them ready before schools," said P Naresh, director of elementary education.
Student Transition Priority
On priority, school heads have been asked to ensure a smooth transition of students from government primary schools to government middle schools. "The aim is to get 100% of the students enrolled in government primary schools to shift to government middle and high schools. School heads, especially those in remote areas, have been asked to devote additional care to this," Naresh added.
Safety Guidelines
Instructions also include general guidelines to ensure safety. "Damaged or dilapidated buildings, if any, on campuses must be barricaded to cut access to students. If high-voltage electric wires pass through the campus, immediate action should be taken to reroute such lines. Septic tanks, wells and borewells within campuses should be covered," the circular read.
Uniform Distribution Progress
Meanwhile, officials said that 95% of the stitching work for free uniforms has been completed and 71% of the garments have been distributed to schools. "The stitching work and distribution of the remaining uniforms will also be expedited so that it reaches students before school reopening," said S Kannappan, school education director.
