The basic education department in Uttar Pradesh has directed teachers to implement ten key teaching-learning processes in classrooms to meet the objectives of the NIPUN Bharat Mission. The new set of guidelines emphasizes creating a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environment that supports children's social and emotional well-being, encouraging active participation through various activities.
Key Directives for Teachers
Additional Chief Secretary of the Basic and Secondary Education Department, Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, instructed teachers to regularly assign practice tasks to students, monitor their progress, and provide meaningful feedback. He stated, "When teachers offer timely feedback while understanding the difficulties children face in learning, children realize what they have done correctly and where improvement is needed."
Diverse Assessment Methods
Teachers have been urged to adopt diverse assessment techniques to gauge understanding. These include calling on specific students to answer questions, having them write correct options on slips of paper, using hand signals like thumbs up or thumbs down, asking students to express their thoughts, conducting activity-based assessments, and regularly observing their work to offer targeted assistance and feedback.
Promoting Independent Learning
Special emphasis has been placed on promoting independent reading and writing practices, supported by functional libraries and reading corners in schools. Teachers must allocate time for all children, whether they are working in pairs, small groups, or individually.
Lesson Planning for Better Outcomes
To ensure improved learning outcomes, teachers have been asked to design lesson plans that keep students engaged in the learning process for longer periods. These measures aim to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy as part of the NIPUN Bharat Mission.
