Uttar Pradesh's School Chalo Abhiyan Campaign Registers Massive Enrollment Success
In a significant boost to educational outreach, the Uttar Pradesh education department announced on Tuesday that approximately 8.7 lakh students have secured admission in state-run schools across the state for the 2026–27 academic session. This remarkable achievement comes under the ongoing 'School Chalo Abhiyan' initiative, which officially commenced on April 1.
Class I and Class VI Lead the Enrollment Surge
The campaign has witnessed its highest traction in the foundational and transitional grades. Specifically, Class I has recorded an impressive 5.3 lakh fresh admissions within just the first 20 days of the drive. This indicates a strong focus on early childhood education and getting young learners into the formal schooling system from the very beginning.
Similarly, Class VI has seen a substantial 2.7 lakh enrolments so far, highlighting the campaign's effectiveness in ensuring students continue their education through the critical middle school phase. The transition from primary to upper primary levels is often a point where dropout rates can increase, making this enrollment figure particularly encouraging.
Steady Progress Across All Grade Levels
While Class I and VI are the standout performers, data from the education department reveals that enrollment in other classes is also progressing at a steady and consistent pace. The detailed breakdown includes:
- Class II: 28,571 enrolments
- Class III: 17,686 enrolments
- Class IV: 10,772 enrolments
- Class V: 8,418 enrolments
- Class VII: 6,513 enrolments
- Class VIII: 3,302 enrolments
This comprehensive spread across multiple grades underscores the campaign's broad-based approach, aiming to strengthen the entire educational ladder rather than focusing on isolated segments.
Building on Past Success with Ambitious Future Targets
According to official statements, the previous academic session (2025-26) saw a total of 34 lakh new enrolments through similar initiatives. For the current cycle, expectations are set even higher as the School Chalo Abhiyan is scheduled to continue its operations until July 15. This extended timeline provides ample opportunity for further outreach and enrollment acceleration.
A government spokesperson attributed the high enrollment numbers to an effective strategy and robust ground-level implementation of the campaign. He emphasized that coordinated and strengthened efforts are being mobilized at all administrative and operational tiers—from departmental officials to frontline teachers—to further accelerate enrollment in the upcoming phases of the drive.
The spokesperson added, "The success we are witnessing is a direct result of meticulous planning and dedicated execution. Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure that every eligible child in Uttar Pradesh has access to quality education in government schools."
As the campaign progresses, education authorities remain optimistic about surpassing previous records and making significant strides toward universal school enrollment in the state.
