RCU Belagavi Corruption Scandal: AIDSO Demands Probe into Multi-Crore Scam
AIDSO Demands Probe into RCU Belagavi Corruption Scandal

The All-India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) in Belagavi has raised a major alarm over shocking media reports that suggest a multi-crore corruption scandal at the prestigious Rani Channamma University (RCU). The student body expressed deep concern, stating that the alleged misuse of public funds poses a severe threat to the integrity of the higher education system.

Serious Allegations of Financial Misconduct

In a press statement released on Monday, Mahantesh Bilur, the district convenor of AIDSO Belagavi, outlined the grave nature of the accusations. The reports point to a series of serious irregularities, including a significant and unexplained escalation of tender costs, allegations of bribery, the supply of substandard materials, and blatant violations of statutory norms. Bilur emphasized that these actions, if proven, represent a gross misuse of taxpayer money.

"Universities are temples of learning meant to serve students and society, not centres of corruption and profiteering," stated Bilur. He further stressed that the allegations, initially brought to light by an RTI activist, suggest deep-rooted corruption potentially involving senior university officials and private firms. Such acts, he warned, cause irreparable damage to public trust in vital institutions.

Demand for Immediate and Impartial Action

In response to the emerging scandal, AIDSO has put forth a clear set of demands. The organization is calling for an immediate, impartial, and time-bound investigation to be conducted by an independent agency. They insist that the probe must cover all the allegations thoroughly.

Furthermore, AIDSO has demanded that strict action and exemplary punishment be meted out to anyone found guilty, regardless of their position or political influence. To prevent such incidents in the future, the student body advocates for complete transparency in university procurement processes and examination-related activities, coupled with effective public oversight mechanisms.

Lokayukta Steps In, Case Registered

The wheels of justice have begun to turn in this case. Speaking to the media, Lokayukta SP Hanumantaraya confirmed that a formal complaint filed by RTI activist Dattatray Kulkarni against RCU officials has been registered at the Lokayukta office in Belagavi. The official inquiry is set to be launched as soon as the case is formally transferred to the Belagavi office for further proceedings.

AIDSO has urgently appealed to the authorities, including the Lokayukta and the state government, to act decisively. Their call is to root out corruption from the education sector and take concrete steps to safeguard the future of public education in Karnataka.
