- Rise at Oregon: He gained national fame as offensive coordinator (2007–2008) and then head coach (2009–2012) at the University of Oregon. His high-tempo, spread offense turned the Ducks into a national powerhouse, leading to three straight conference titles, four BCS bowl appearances, and a trip to the 2011 BCS National Championship Game.
- NFL Stint: Kelly moved to the NFL as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles (2013–2015) and San Francisco 49ers (2016). He won the NFC East in his first season with the Eagles but his pro career concluded after the 2016 season.
