The Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has introduced a range of new academic programmes for the current session, expanding its multidisciplinary offerings to align with national priorities, regional needs, and emerging employment opportunities. Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. P. Bansal stated that the newly introduced courses are designed to equip students with industry-relevant skills while reinforcing the university's role as a centre of excellence in higher education. He emphasized that the initiatives are in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes multidisciplinary learning, skill development, and flexibility in education.
New Law Programmes and Legal Aid Clinic
Among the significant additions is the Master of Laws (LL.M.) programme, which has received an encouraging response from students. Prof. Bansal announced that the university will also launch integrated BA LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) programmes after obtaining approval from the Bar Council of India. Additionally, a Legal Aid Clinic will be established to provide legal awareness and basic assistance to residents of villages adopted by the university, while offering law students practical training.
Chinese Language Programme for Strategic Careers
Recognizing the growing strategic importance of foreign languages, CUHP has introduced a Chinese language programme to prepare students for careers in diplomacy, trade, translation, tourism, international business, and strategic studies. The Vice-Chancellor noted that this initiative is particularly relevant for India's border regions and aligns with national priorities.
Buddhism and Tibetan Studies Leveraging Dharamsala's Heritage
Capitalizing on Dharamsala's global significance as the home of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile and a major centre of Buddhist learning, the university has launched programmes in Buddhism and Tibetan Studies. Prof. Bansal stated that these courses will promote research in philosophy, religion, history, language, and culture while supporting Buddhist tourism and preserving India's civilisational heritage.
Geology and GIS Programmes for Himalayan Challenges
To address the developmental challenges of the Himalayan region, CUHP has introduced specialized programmes in Geology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. These courses will prepare professionals in areas such as disaster management, landslide mitigation, environmental conservation, natural resource management, and geospatial technologies.
Hotel Management Programme for Tourism Sector
The university has also started a Hotel Management programme, keeping in view Himachal Pradesh's expanding tourism and hospitality sector. The course aims to produce skilled professionals for careers in hotels, resorts, airlines, travel companies, event management, and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Bansal said that the introduction of these programmes reflects CUHP's commitment to combining academic excellence with employability, innovation, and community engagement.
