GJUST Hisar to set up Drone, AI Centres; Rs 21L Infosys drive

In a major push towards future-ready education, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) in Hisar has unveiled ambitious plans to establish four new Centres of Excellence and introduce employment-focused courses. The announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Narsiram Bishnoi during a New Year media interaction where he also released the university's annual calendar.

New Academic Hubs and High-Value Placements

The university will set up dedicated Centres of Excellence in drone technology, artificial intelligence (AI), Indian knowledge traditions, and mental health and human well-being. These centres are a core part of the varsity's strategy to roll out new employment-oriented programmes starting from the 2026–27 academic session.

In a significant boost for students, Infosys will conduct a campus placement drive at GJUST in January, offering an annual package of Rs 21 lakh. Furthermore, the university will launch a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course, expanding its paramedical offerings.

Rapid Expansion and International Collaborations

Prof. Bishnoi highlighted the institution's remarkable growth over the past two years. GJUST has introduced more than 25 new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, alongside 21 Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes and 40 online courses. This expansion has fueled a surge in student enrollment, with numbers jumping from 5,500 to 13,000, including approximately 850 research scholars.

The university's research endeavours have been bolstered by substantial grants, including Rs 10 crore each from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and the ANRF schemes. It also submitted 25 projects under the GIAN programme to the Ministry of Education.

To globalise its academic portfolio, GJUST has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with institutions in Australia, the United States, and Sweden for dual-degree programmes. These partnerships will also open doors for faculty and researchers to engage in international collaborations.

A Rise in Rankings and Specialised Programmes

The Vice-Chancellor attributed these strategic initiatives to a significant improvement in the university's national and international rankings. He also noted a key milestone: GJUST became the first academic university in Haryana to introduce BSc Nursing and Post-Basic BSc Nursing programmes in the paramedical stream.

The event was attended by key officials including registrar Dr Vijay Kumar, dean (academic affairs) Prof. Yogesh Chaba, and technical advisor Prof. Vinod Chhokar, underscoring the collective effort behind the university's transformative roadmap.
