Gurugram University is embarking on a significant phase of growth, marked by a strategic shift to its new Sector 87 campus. This move heralds a series of planned academic and infrastructure developments designed to enhance the student experience and educational offerings.
Phased Transition and New Academic Blocks
The university is implementing the transition in a careful, phased manner to prevent any disruption to academic activities. Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Kaushik emphasized that the focus is on ensuring basic facilities, smooth movement between campuses, and adequate teaching spaces before relocating larger departments.
Several departments, including management, commerce, physiotherapy, and law, are already operational at the new location. The pharmacy department is slated to move shortly. A dedicated physiotherapy building, featuring a water-therapy facility, is scheduled for inauguration by the end of March.
Exciting new academic ventures are on the horizon. The university will establish a humanities block for mass communication and psychology, complete with proposed soundproof studios and labs. Furthermore, a new department of forensic sciences is set to launch in July. For now, the engineering department, with its approximately 1,500 students, will remain at the existing campus due to current space and infrastructure limitations.
Infrastructure and Connectivity Enhancements
The development of the Sector 87 campus prioritizes smart and sustainable design. To limit internal vehicular movement, the university plans to deploy e-rickshaws and a smart-card-based cycle-sharing system for student mobility within the premises.
Addressing student accommodation, a 60-room girls' hostel at the Sector 51 campus is expected to open in July, with a capacity for about 150 to 175 students. The university is also in discussions with the district administration to improve bus connectivity between its campuses and key residential areas.
Boosting Practical Exposure and Research
Strengthening its industry linkages, Gurugram University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Silver Streak Hospital. This partnership will allow students to utilize the hospital's 100-bed facility for internships and practical classes, providing invaluable hands-on experience.
On the academic front, the university is preparing a revised research promotion policy. According to VC Kaushik, this policy aims to encourage faculty research that is directly linked to social needs and state-level requirements. Additionally, the career and placement cell has been expanded to better support students in their professional journeys.
