Haryana Government Initiates Formal Probe into Al-Falah University
The Haryana education department has launched a formal investigation into Al-Falah University following concerns raised by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI). Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda confirmed on Monday that the state government has established a two-member committee to examine the university's operations and financial records.
Investigation Committee and Timeline
The committee comprises senior IAS officer Shyamal Mishra and Ashok Kumar, an official from the accounts section of the higher education department. This team has been assigned the crucial task of reviewing the university's financial accounts and ensuring complete compliance with regulatory standards. The committee has received clear instructions to deliver its findings within three months.
Minister Dhanda emphasized that this investigation specifically targets Al-Falah University and does not represent a broader examination of the entire education sector. The higher education department is concurrently conducting its own internal investigation to guarantee transparency and adherence to regulations.
NCMEI Show-Cause Notice and December Hearing
This governmental action follows the NCMEI's issuance of a show-cause notice to Al-Falah University last Friday. The commission has questioned why the institution's minority status should not be revoked and has summoned both the university registrar and the principal secretary of Haryana's education department for a hearing scheduled on December 4.
The NCMEI notice demands that Al-Falah University provide comprehensive documentation including:
- Records related to its managing body and trust structure
- Detailed information about funding sources and appointment processes
- Compliance documents with the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act, 2004
- Original trust deed records and management composition details
- Admissions data and faculty appointment records
- Governing body minutes and financial statements for the past three years
An official speaking anonymously revealed that failure to appear at the hearing or produce the required documents could result in ex parte proceedings against the university.
The situation places Al-Falah University under significant scrutiny as both state and national educational bodies examine its operations and compliance with regulatory standards. The coming months will be critical for the institution as it responds to these multiple investigations and works to maintain its educational standing.
