IIM Ahmedabad Wraps Up Record Summer Placement Season for MBA Class of 2027

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has successfully concluded the Summer Placement Process for its MBA Class of 2027, with all 410 students from the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) securing internships. The process, finalized on November 3, saw participation from over 165 companies, including more than 50 new recruiters such as global giants Apple and HDFC AMC.

New Recruiters and International Opportunities Expand Horizons

The campus witnessed a significant diversification in its recruiter base. Prominent among the new companies were Apple, Dainik Bhaskar, Fitpass, Gaja Capital, Haleon, Hero MotoCorp, JioStar, and Purplle. A notable highlight of this year's placement season was the availability of international roles. Firms offered opportunities in key global markets like the Middle East, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Specifically, HSBC and Goldman Sachs made offers for international positions within the investment banking and markets cohort, while Fast Retailing did the same in the retail sector.

Management Consulting Leads as Largest Recruiting Sector

The consolidated placement report reveals that the management consulting cohort was the largest recruiter, absorbing 166 students, which accounts for a substantial 40% of the batch. This was followed by the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector with 105 roles (25%) and the Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector with 37 roles (9%). The top recruiters in the coveted management consulting domain were Boston Consulting Group (24 offers), McKinsey and Company (17 offers), Bain and Company (15 offers), and Kearney (15 offers).

Other major recruiters across different cohorts included:

  • Investment Banking & Markets: Goldman Sachs (11), Standard Chartered Bank (9)
  • General Cohorts: Accenture Strategy (39 offers combined), American Express (11), EY Parthenon (10)
  • Technology: Adobe (5), Microsoft (4)
  • Core Manufacturing: Hero MotoCorp (3), Tata Steel (3)

Dream Applications See Significant 15% Surge

A key feature of IIM-A's placement process is the "dream" application system, which allows students to apply to their preferred firms even after securing an offer. This year, this mechanism saw remarkable traction. A total of 117 students submitted over 280 dream applications, leading to a 15% increase in dream offer conversions compared to the previous year. This reflects greater flexibility and empowers students to pursue their ideal career paths.

Atharva Kapadnis, the Recruitment Secretary at IIM Ahmedabad, commented on the successful season, stating, "This year, we witnessed increased confidence from recruiters... The process concluded at the earliest pace since the pandemic, with a significant rise in both dream applications and conversions." He emphasized the institute's continued efforts to diversify the range of participating firms to align with students' varied interests.

Echoing the sentiment, Prof Viswanath Pingali, Chairperson of Placements at IIM-A, said, "It is good to see the Indian industry reposing faith in our students for the summer internship, yet again. Our core philosophy revolves around maximizing recruiter-recruitee fit." Partners from top consulting firms like BCG, McKinsey, Bain, and Kearney also released statements praising the talent at IIM-A and the smooth efficiency of the placement process.
