IISERs Announce IAT 2026 for Undergraduate Admissions Across All Campuses

The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) have officially called for applications for the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2026. This mandatory examination is the gateway for admission to undergraduate programmes offered across all IISER campuses for the academic year 2026–27.

Key Dates and Application Process

The IAT 2026 is scheduled to be conducted on June 7, 2026. Prospective candidates can begin submitting their applications from March 5, 2026. The application window will remain open for a specified period, and interested students are advised to apply early to avoid last-minute hassles.

Applications must be submitted exclusively through the official IISER admission portal at iiseradmission.in. The website will provide comprehensive details regarding examination centres, application fees, and other crucial information. Candidates seeking admission to IISER campuses in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirupati are required to register through this portal.

Eligibility Criteria for IAT 2026

To be eligible for the IAT 2026, candidates must have passed their Class XII or an equivalent examination. Alternatively, they may have completed a minimum three-year diploma programme in the science stream. The qualifying years for these examinations are 2024, 2025, or 2026.

Candidates must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in their qualifying examination. For candidates belonging to SC, ST, or PWD categories, the minimum aggregate requirement is relaxed to 55% marks.

In terms of subject requirements, applicants must have studied at least three subjects from the following list: biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. It is important to note that mathematics is a mandatory subject for specific programmes offered by certain IISERs.

Programme-Specific Requirements

For certain specialised undergraduate programmes, mathematics is a compulsory subject. These programmes include:

  • BS-MS in Computational and Data Sciences at IISER Kolkata
  • B Tech/BS in Economic Sciences at IISER Bhopal
  • BS in Economic and Statistical Sciences at IISER Tirupati

Prospective students aiming for these programmes must ensure they meet this additional criterion.

Placement Prospects and Career Opportunities

IISERs are renowned for their strong placement records and academic excellence. Graduates from these institutes have consistently secured prestigious roles at top global firms, leading research institutions, and competitive PhD programmes worldwide. The institutes' rigorous curriculum and research-oriented approach prepare students for successful careers in science, technology, and academia.

With the IAT 2026 serving as the primary admission test, aspiring scientists and researchers are encouraged to prepare thoroughly and apply within the stipulated deadlines to embark on a promising educational journey at one of India's premier science education institutions.
