Jamia Millia Islamia's UPC Successfully Concludes Two-Day Employability Enhancement Workshop
The University Placement Cell (UPC) at Jamia Millia Islamia recently concluded a high-impact, two-day Employability Enhancement workshop titled "Acing Case Interviews & Storytelling for Jobs in Consulting". The event took place from January 29 to 30 and was attended by approximately 100 students from diverse academic backgrounds, including management, economics, and commerce.
Inaugural Ceremony and Dignitaries
The workshop commenced with a formal welcome address by Prof Rahela Farooqi, Director of the UPC. This was followed by opening remarks from Prof Rihan Khan Suri, Director of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) and Professor of Training and Placement Officer (TPO). The event was officially inaugurated by Prof Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia, and the Guest of Honour, Sanjay Khurana, Director at KPMG.
Both dignitaries shared insightful perspectives on the evolving corporate landscape, offering motivation and guidance to students as they strive for excellence in their career journeys. Prof Sabah Khan, Deputy Director of the UPC, concluded the inaugural ceremony with a formal vote of thanks, setting a positive tone for the days ahead.
Day 1: Technical Sessions on Personal Branding
The first day of the workshop focused on technical sessions aimed at enhancing personal branding skills. The initial session, "Relaying Your Story beyond Your Resume," was delivered by Ansab Amir Khan, formerly of Homecentre. He guided students on how to weave compelling narratives around their academic and professional profiles, emphasizing the importance of storytelling in job applications.
The second session, "From Problem to Recommendation," was led by Adil Khan, an ex-Bain consultant. He provided a deep dive into mastering the case interview process, teaching students effective strategies for structuring and solving complex business problems commonly encountered in consulting roles.
Day 2: Practical and Industry-Focused Sessions
The second day maintained high energy with practical, industry-focused sessions designed to equip students with real-world skills. The session on "The Art of Storytelling" was delivered by Mr Mohd. Arif Rao, a JMI alumnus currently working at SAP Labs India. He conducted an engaging and informative discussion on the power of narrative in professional settings, highlighting how storytelling can enhance communication and impact in consulting.
This was followed by "The Consultant's Toolkit" by Aditya Singh from KPMG, who shared essential tools and frameworks used by global consulting firms. He provided practical insights into the methodologies and approaches that consultants employ to analyze data and deliver solutions.
The final session, "Are You Consulting Ready?" by Mr Amim Fatmi, offered a structured roadmap for students to assess their industry readiness. He outlined key competencies and preparation steps necessary to succeed in the competitive field of consulting, ensuring participants left with a clear action plan.
