The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Jamia Millia Islamia successfully hosted the YESummit 2025, a dynamic day-long event dedicated to empowering the next generation of change-makers. Held on December 19 at the university campus, the summit served as a confluence of ideas, bringing together academicians, industry experts, policymakers, established entrepreneurs, and ambitious students on a single platform.
Visionary Inauguration Sets the Tone
The summit commenced with an inaugural session that outlined a clear roadmap for fostering innovation. Prof. Rihan Khan Suri, Director of CIE, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the Centre's mission to cultivate innovation-driven and socially responsible entrepreneurs. This vision was powerfully reinforced by Prof. Mazhar Asif, the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, in his Presidential Address.
Prof. Asif underscored the critical role universities play in nurturing entrepreneurial talent and leadership geared towards social good. He highlighted that platforms like YESummit are essential for providing students with real-world exposure, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application to transform ideas into impactful ventures.
The session was graced by several distinguished guests, including Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi (Registrar, JMI), Prof. Mohammad Sharif (Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology), Mathew Mattam (Founder, YouthAid Foundation), Ravindra Singh Rathore (Country Manager, UPS), and Ghulam Mustafa (President & CEO, ALMEER Saudi Technical Co.).
Showcasing Skill and Entrepreneurial Spirit
A highlight of the inaugural proceedings was a gesture that perfectly embodied the summit's spirit. Dignitaries were presented with bakery products meticulously prepared by students enrolled in the Advanced Bakery Training and Basic Bakery Training programmes run under CIE. This act was widely appreciated, as it tangibly showcased the hands-on skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial potential being developed through the university's practical, skill-based training initiatives.
Panels and Pitches: From Ideas to Impact
The summit's agenda was packed with engaging and actionable content. A thought-provoking panel discussion delved into the crucial theme of "Sustainability and Social Impact – Building Businesses that Help Communities." Leading entrepreneurs and ecosystem experts shared valuable insights on creating ventures that are both profitable and purpose-driven.
The post-lunch session buzzed with energy as it transitioned into a startup pitching competition. Here, young innovators took the stage to present their groundbreaking business ideas before an esteemed jury, competing for recognition and a chance to propel their ventures forward.
YESummit 2025 ultimately stood as a strong testament to Jamia Millia Islamia's sustained commitment. The event reinforced the university's active role in building an inclusive and vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem that effectively connects academia, industry, and the broader society, empowering youth to become job creators and solution providers.
