Lucknow University Announces New Specialized Programs in AI and Cybersecurity
In a significant development for technical education in Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow University has revealed plans to introduce comprehensive specialized courses in artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. These new academic offerings will commence from the 2026-27 academic session, marking a strategic expansion of the university's computer science department.
Program Structure and Seat Allocation
According to official statements from Lucknow University authorities, the institution will launch multiple programs with carefully planned seat allocations. For undergraduate studies, the university will offer Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) programs with specializations in both artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Each of these BCA streams will have an intake capacity of 60 seats.
At the postgraduate level, Lucknow University will introduce Master of Science (MSc) programs in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, along with a Postgraduate Diploma program specifically focused on cybersecurity. Both the MSc programs and the PG Diploma will accommodate 30 students each, ensuring focused attention and quality education delivery.
Eligibility Criteria for Prospective Students
The admission requirements have been structured to ensure students possess appropriate foundational knowledge. For the undergraduate BCA programs in AI and cybersecurity, applicants must have studied either mathematics or computer science during their class 12 education. This prerequisite ensures students enter the program with essential quantitative and computational thinking skills.
For the postgraduate MSc programs in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, candidates need to hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or any closely related discipline. This requirement guarantees that students already have a solid foundation in computing principles before advancing to specialized, complex concepts in these cutting-edge fields.
The Postgraduate Diploma in cybersecurity offers more flexible entry criteria. This program is open to graduates from any academic stream, provided they demonstrate a basic understanding of computer systems. This inclusive approach allows even students without formal technical backgrounds to pursue cybersecurity education and potentially transition into this high-demand field.
Industry-Aligned Curriculum and Practical Training
The curriculum for these new programs has been meticulously designed to align with current industry demands and technological advancements. Students enrolled in the artificial intelligence programs will receive comprehensive training in machine learning algorithms, data analytics techniques, neural network architectures, and AI application development.
For cybersecurity students, the curriculum will cover essential domains including ethical hacking methodologies, network security protocols, cryptographic systems, digital forensics procedures, and cyber threat intelligence. Beyond theoretical knowledge, significant emphasis will be placed on practical exposure through well-equipped laboratory sessions, real-world project assignments, and structured internship opportunities with industry partners.
Infrastructure and Implementation Details
Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor Professor JP Saini has issued directives for the operational implementation of these new courses. All classes for the artificial intelligence and cybersecurity programs will be conducted in the ONGC building located on the university's main campus. This dedicated facility will provide students with modern infrastructure and learning environments conducive to technical education excellence.
The introduction of these specialized programs represents Lucknow University's strategic response to the growing demand for skilled professionals in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity sectors. By launching these courses in the 2026-27 academic year, the university positions itself at the forefront of technological education in northern India, preparing students for careers in some of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving fields of the digital economy.
