Fakir Mohan University (FMU) made history on Wednesday by launching a sanitary pad manufacturing unit called "Kaalika" at its Nuapadhi campus in Balasore district. This marks the first time any university in Odisha has established such a facility, showcasing a bold move toward inclusive development.

The new unit operates under the Fakir Mohan University–Technology Business Incubator (FMU-TBI), which drives innovation on campus. Emami Paper Mills Limited provided crucial support for the project, ensuring the initiative has strong backing from industry. Prasanta Enterprises from Jharsuguda serves as the technical partner, bringing expertise to the manufacturing process.
