Panjab University's 15th Rose Festival Opens with Vibrant Floral Displays
The 15th edition of the Panjab University Rose Festival officially opened its gates on Friday at the picturesque Prof RC Paul Rose Garden. The inaugural day witnessed a significant turnout of university faculty members, dedicated employees, enthusiastic students, and local residents from Chandigarh, all gathering to celebrate the beauty of horticulture.
Inauguration by University Dignitaries
The three-day floral extravaganza was formally inaugurated by Prof Yojna Rawat, the Dean of University Instruction, who served as the chief guest for the ceremony. The event saw Registrar YP Verma attending as the esteemed guest of honour. The occasion was further graced by the presence of senior university officials and several former administrators, highlighting the institutional importance of this annual tradition.
Spectacular Showcase of Floral Artistry
Approximately 500 passionate participants presented their creative floral entries, competing across an impressive 92 distinct categories on the very first day. This diverse range of exhibits transformed the garden into a vibrant tapestry of colors, fragrances, and botanical artistry, setting a high standard for the festival.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the dignitaries embarked on a guided tour of the expansive garden. They meticulously viewed the various exhibitions and displays that had been set up by different campus bodies and partner organizations, appreciating the collaborative effort behind the event.
Promoting Horticulture and Environmental Stewardship
In her address, Prof Yojna Rawat emphasized the festival's dual purpose. She stated that the event not only highlights the dedicated work of the university's horticulture division but also plays a crucial role in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability practices across the campus community.
Er Anil Thakur, the Executive Engineer-II and the lead organizer of the festival, expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support received from the Vice-Chancellor and the broader university administration. He highlighted that the Rose Festival serves as a vital common platform, bringing together teaching staff, non-teaching employees, their families, and students to foster unity and shared appreciation for nature's beauty.
The successful opening day sets a promising tone for the remainder of the three-day festival, which continues to be a cherished annual event celebrating floral diversity and community engagement at Panjab University.
