Patna College, a historic constituent unit of Patna University, commemorated its 164th foundation day with vibrant celebrations on Friday. The event was marked by ceremonial traditions, recognition of academic excellence, and reflections on the institution's storied past and future aspirations.
A Day of Ceremony and Recognition
The festivities commenced with Patna University Vice-Chancellor Namita Singh hoisting the college flag. This was followed by an impressive march past performed by the college's NCC cadets, setting a dignified tone for the day. In a symbolic gesture representing the college's long journey, 164 balloons in various colors were released into the sky, each signifying a year of the institution's growth.
A key highlight was the felicitation ceremony. The college honored students who achieved top positions in the recent Patna University examinations. Additionally, teachers and non-teaching staff members who retired from university service in the past year were recognized for their contributions.
Leaders Reflect on Legacy and Future Challenges
The chief guest for the occasion was Rash Bihari Prasad Singh, a former vice-chancellor of PU who has a deep, personal connection with the college as a former student, teacher, and principal. In his address, he nostalgically recalled his time on campus and the values he gained. He praised Patna College, one of the oldest institutions in eastern India, labeling it the "brain capital" of the nation due to its significant impact on India's academic landscape. He urged the college to continue its proud tradition of delivering quality education and inspiring young minds.
In her presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Namita Singh acknowledged the college's glorious history but pointed out that its present condition requires enhancement. She assured that efforts are being made to prepare the institution to face modern challenges and compete on a global scale. Singh called upon both teachers and students, whom she deemed as competent as any elsewhere, to strive collectively to help Patna College reclaim a leadership position in academia.
Community Call and Cultural Flourish
College Principal Anil Kumar, in his welcome speech, appealed to students to maintain peace within the college and hostel premises. He encouraged them to actively contribute to the holistic development of their alma mater.
