Panjab University Postpones PU-CET UG & PUTHAT 2026 to May
PU-CET UG, PUTHAT 2026 exams postponed to May

In a significant reversal of its academic calendar, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has officially postponed its undergraduate entrance examinations. The university has decided to move the Panjab University Common Entrance Test for Undergraduate courses (PU-CET UG) and the Panjab University Tourism and Hospitality Aptitude Test (PUTHAT) back to their traditional timeframe.

Revised Exam Dates Announced

The university released a detailed revised schedule for the impacted tests. The PU-CET (UG) examination, which was initially planned for December 28, 2025, will now be conducted on May 10, 2026. Similarly, the PUTHAT exam has been shifted from its original date of January 9, 2026, to a new date of May 15, 2026. All details concerning the updated timetables are available on the university's official portals.

Reversal of an Early Schedule Strategy

This decision marks a rollback of PU's unprecedented move to announce entrance tests nearly five months ahead of the conventional May-June window. The earlier schedule for December 2025 and January 2026 was designed to align the university's admission process with national patterns and facilitate an earlier start to the academic session. However, this ambitious timeline presented a major challenge for aspirants, as it would have forced them to prepare for their board examinations and university entrance tests simultaneously.

The university administration acknowledged receiving a substantial volume of appeals from students and parents seeking an extension of the examination dates. A spokesperson from the examination controller's office stated that the decision was taken after careful consideration of these concerns. "The aim is to ensure that no eligible aspirant is deprived of the opportunity to apply due to genuine constraints," the official explained.

Guidance for Candidates

With the new dates in place, Panjab University has advised all prospective candidates to remain vigilant for official updates. Students should regularly check the designated examination websites for all notifications and critical information related to the revised schedules, application processes, and admit card releases. This step is crucial to avoid any last-minute confusion and ensure a smooth application procedure.

The postponement brings relief to thousands of students across the region, allowing them to focus on their board examinations without the added pressure of imminent university entrance tests. It underscores the university's responsiveness to student welfare in its administrative planning.
