Panjab University Unveils Timeline for 2026 Senate Elections
Panjab University in Chandigarh has officially announced the schedule for the 2026 Senate elections. The university will elect 15 ordinary fellows from the Registered Graduates' constituency. This announcement sets in motion a series of important deadlines for graduates who wish to participate in the electoral process.
Key Application and Fee Deadlines
The last date for submitting applications for fresh enrolment as a registered graduate is February 23, 2026. Applicants must send their forms along with a prescribed composite fee of Rs 15 to the office of the registrar by this date. The election itself is scheduled for September 20, 2026.
Registered graduates who have outstanding dues must clear them by February 23, 2026, to exercise their voting rights. Panjab University officials stated that they will upload the list of defaulters among old registered graduates on the university website. This list will also be available with the assistant registrar in the election cell.
Important Dates for Voter Registration and Objections
The supplementary register of graduates will be published on March 24, 2026. Graduates can submit intimation regarding a change of address up to April 23, 2026. Claims and objections will be accepted until June 22, 2026.
Scrutiny of these claims and objections by the registrar is set for July 2, 2026. A committee meeting will follow on July 3, 2026, to consider any objections to the registrar's decisions. The final register of graduates will be published on July 27, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria for Enrolment
Only persons domiciled in India are eligible for enrolment. The eligibility criteria specify that graduates of Panjab University with a minimum standing of five years can apply. This standing is counted from the year of passing the degree examination, making graduates up to 2021 eligible.
Candidates who hold a master's or doctoral degree from Panjab University are also eligible to enrol as registered graduates. This broadens the pool of potential voters and candidates for the Senate positions.
The university encourages all eligible graduates to mark these dates and ensure they meet the requirements to participate in this important democratic process.
