Students of Ranchi University (RU) staged a forceful protest on Saturday, surrounding the administrative building to voice their frustration over persistent administrative delays that are hampering their academic futures. The demonstration was organized under the banner of the All India Students' Association (AISA).
Core Demands of the Agitating Students
The protesters presented a charter of demands focusing on urgent administrative reforms. Their primary call was for the university to declare undergraduate (UG) results in a strict, time-bound manner. This delay is directly impacting the next crucial step: the commencement of admissions for postgraduate (PG) courses for the 2025-26 academic session.
Furthermore, the students insisted that the PhD entrance examinations be conducted at the earliest opportunity. They also raised serious concerns about governance, demanding proactive steps to eliminate corruption within the university system and to provide employment-oriented education. The protesters alleged a conspiracy to make RU autonomous, a move they oppose.
Leadership Voices Student Anguish
Vijay Kumar, the AISA Ranchi district President, articulated the collective grievance. He stated that the indefinite delay in UG results is creating a cascading effect, blocking the PG admission process. Kumar also highlighted a significant democratic deficit, pointing out that students' body elections have not been held for the past seven years.
"The indifference of the RU management has affected the students' careers," Kumar asserted. The protesters argued that elected student representatives would hold the administration accountable, which is why the elections are being persistently delayed.
Career Prospects Hang in the Balance
The agitation stems from tangible career anxieties. Students aiming to secure seats in reputed institutions for higher studies are now forced to lose an entire academic year due to the postponement of results and admissions. This bureaucratic logjam is putting their future plans on hold indefinitely.
The protest turned tense when police personnel stationed at the administrative building gate prevented the students from advancing further. This led to a heated exchange of words between the student leaders and university officials, with debates erupting over the declining state of education and administration at RU.
With their academic timelines in jeopardy, the students of Ranchi University have made it clear that they will not remain silent. The ball is now in the court of the university administration to address these pressing issues and prevent further disruption to the academic calendar and student careers.
