Assam Cabinet Decides to Stop Aadhaar Issuance to Adults
The Assam Cabinet has taken a significant decision to halt the issuance of Aadhaar cards to individuals aged above 18 years. This ban will come into full effect from April 1, 2027, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The move is aimed at addressing demographic concerns in the state.
From April 1, 2027, people from these communities who are above 18 years of age will also stop receiving Aadhaar cards. The decision was made during a recent cabinet meeting, and the chief minister stated that this step is necessary to ensure proper documentation and prevent illegal immigration.
The ban will be implemented gradually, with complete cessation of Aadhaar issuance to adults from the specified date. The state government has emphasized that this decision is in line with its commitment to protect the interests of native Assamese people.
This move has sparked discussions about the implications for residents who rely on Aadhaar for various government services and benefits. However, the government has assured that alternative arrangements will be made to ensure that genuine citizens are not inconvenienced.
