SRM University AP to Launch Quantum Computer & AI Institute in Andhra Pradesh
SRM AP to Set Up Quantum Computer Centre in Amaravati

In a significant push to position Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of next-generation technology, SRM University–AP has announced ambitious plans to establish a state-of-the-art Quantum Computer and a Quantum Reference Centre on its Amaravati campus. This initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Building a Quantum-Ready Workforce

Speaking to the media on Thursday, the university's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Satish Kumar, outlined the vision behind this major step. The core objective is to make advanced quantum tools and critical knowledge accessible to students, researchers, and industry professionals across the state. This move is designed to cultivate a skilled, quantum-ready workforce to meet future technological demands.

As a central part of this quantum leap, the university will launch a dedicated Quantum Institute. This institute will focus on comprehensive education, pioneering research, and innovation in quantum science and technology. It is expected to become a hub for advanced research in quantum computing and related fields, fostering strong collaborations between academia and industry.

Expanding the Horizon: AI and Sustainable Energy

Prof. Satish Kumar also highlighted other key initiatives by the university in emerging tech domains. In a major international collaboration, SRM University–AP has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Carnegie Mellon University's prestigious School of Computer Science. This partnership aims to establish an AI Institute that will promote cutting-edge artificial intelligence education. The institute's curriculum will span diverse disciplines, including humanities, sciences, and management, going beyond traditional engineering focus.

Leveraging Amaravati's recent declaration as a Green Hydrogen Valley, the university is planning to set up an Energy Institute. This institute will concentrate on clean and sustainable energy solutions, with a particular emphasis on green hydrogen research and associated workforce development.

New Academic Programs for Future Industries

On the academic front, SRM University–AP is responding to evolving global needs by introducing new specialized programs. These programs will cater to high-demand emerging areas, ensuring students are industry-ready. The new offerings will include:

  • Defence Engineering
  • Semiconductor Technologies
  • Financial Engineering
  • Energy Engineering
  • Health Engineering

This multi-pronged strategy—encompassing quantum computing, artificial intelligence, sustainable energy, and modernized academics—positions SRM University–AP as a pivotal institution in driving technological education and innovation within Andhra Pradesh and India at large.
